work process

I make armature shapes out of wood and wire using a scroll saw and drill press. White glue is applied so the clay will attach.I build the forms using air dry clay applying it in sections and pressing in various textures. The facial features are cut in with a blade. I use my own hand painted glass eyes. Each creature is painted with a base coat wash of acrylic colors. I apply layers of acrylic paint using a dry brush technique which picks up the texture of the clay. Some creatures require outlines, lines or dots that I paint on. Others require wings that I print from my digital designs. All are sealed with an acrylic spray.

it all starts with some wood & Wire
