beetle/masks

My masks and beetles are my favorite subject and the most complex. A little bit of everything- armatures, claywork, woodwork, painting, beadwork, digital design, and assemblage. Assembled with wood, wire, wood veneer, air dry clay, beaded legs, hand painted eyes and digitally created wings. Each piece is hand painted with layers of brilliant acrylic paints. My beetles are referenced from actual beetles some being the stag, longhorn, jeweled wood boring, dung, and scarab.Bead work is how I finish my beetles. It’s a process of choosing in order and repetition. -size, shape, texture, -surface-shiny, matt, translucent -color-nuance of color, shades of color, contrast and compliments of all
